I'd argue that this is desired.  Changing the sample-rate on the fly means a
LOT of recalculating.  If you change the sample rate on the fly, but leave
quanta constant, then everything still needs to recalculate and adjust for a
new subsample_per_sample.  They are both "per second" so they are inherently
tied together.  This being an audio API, I'd prefer to see things relative
to the audio sample rate.

Now we know how you and I feel - other voices have anything to offer, or do
Mike and I armwrestle?

OK, I see what you're saying.  Not sure it's useful, though.  Or rather, I'm
not sure it is more useful that an event every beat (and I'm not sure that
itself is useful).

Call me a minimalist ;)
