Lightbulbs going off... "Ticks" is an overloaded term. In MIDI land (maybe
just in my head?<g>), a "tick" is a unit of musical time whose absolute
duration varies depending on the song's tempo. So in a musical context it
isn't really possible to set "ticks per second". You set "ticks per quarter
note".
