We ship consoles with 300+ automatable channels, and in movies like "Pearl
Harbor", they ALL get used. Every plane comes in as a separate input and gets
dynamically attenuated and panned. Vincent is right; the EQ, dynamics, etc are
generally snapshot-style but when scenes only last 1/2 second or so, it's
basically the same thing as dynamic automation.
In order to support automation on such a massive scale, there are automation
modes that Harrison and others have implemented to make it easier on the mixer.
If anyone is interested we can talk about it off-list.
From a GMPI standpoint, it doesn't really matter as it is a Host/UI issue. We
just need to make sure that automation of an arbitrary number of parameters is
supported.
