Your efficiency argument *was* challenged.  But as you said yourself,
it "depends on the implementation".  The design sketches being floated
at this time serve only to demonstrate whether some requirement is
implementable.  Efficiency arguments based on them are highly
premature.

It is unclear whether a well-structured design would be more or less
efficient if it were to include MIDI stapling.  Let's not waste any
more time debating that.  It can't possibly be proven or disproven.
