But in the general (and probably common) case there is no MIDI, eg, its
come from recdorded automation data, or the slider has been dragged with a
mouse, so there will be no MIDI data, so the plugin will have to be able
to parse the GMPI uber-MIDI stuff anyway.

Unless youre suggesting that the host should synthesise MIDI data to match
automation etc. data? That sounds crazy.
