You do an outstanding job of capturing the requirements expressed by
those participating in these discussions. But, it seems that the
participants are not the ones who get to decide.

Requirements already discussed and documented are now being ignored by
people who apparently had not understood them and suddenly discovered
that they conflict with personal long-held and unexamined assumptions.

Since these seem to be the people who will produce the actual spec, I
worry that some of us may be wasting our time producing political
cover for others' hidden agenda.

I hope I am misinterpreting the authoritarian tone of that discussion.
I try not to ascibe malice to actions that could just as well be due
to ordinary foolishness. But, it was hard to find another explanation
when you were slapped down for politely requesting the technical
justification for MiG. The answer was essentially, "this is a
requirement because I say so". That is a political justification.
Formerly, this list had been a technical workgroup. Both have their
place, but it is a mistake to confuse the two.
