Requirements aren't always founded on technical reasons.  When you talk
to a customer about what they require, they'll say "I want the software
to do X."  They don't need to justify it, it's simply what they require.
We're here on this list to decide what the customers of GMPI require,
not how GMPI should do it.  

We on this list represent the future customers of GMPI, both end-users
and developers.  A few of us (myself, Chris Grigg, Tom White) also
happen to represent businesses who have a long and productive history
with MIDI.  We recognize that with all of its limitations, MIDI still
has a place in the commercial world, and that a plugin API which is
music oriented needs to give MIDI proper attention.  Thankfully we are
on the path towards a solution that does this.

As Chris mentioned, in previous disucssions others have stated
requirements for reasons that were less grounded in genuine business
concerns.  And that's fine.  If we believe enough users or developers
will need GMPI to do something, then it's got to go in the requirements.

Nothing is designed yet so there's no mistake.  I believe we all have a
full grasp of the technical issues and the work done by the "technical
group."  Anyway, since you're fairly new to this list, you should know
that there isn't a distinction between technical and non-technical
people here.  All of us have been active in a technical capacity since
last September.  Once in a while we bring marketing and business issues
to bear.
