That's not true.  For example, some host apps provide a "touch automation"
mode where parameter changes are recorded for as long as the change
"gesture" lasts, and then the value snaps back to where it was right
before the gesture began.  To accomplish this, the host app needs to know
right when the gesture is about to begin, and right when it has finished.
