If you're thinking splines and the sort, there are an infinite number of
datapoints between any two values.  Just because a user didn't putthem there
explicitly does not mean they can't be events.  Further, event
smoothing/ramping can be used in cases like that.  All The plugin knows or
cares is that it receives a series of events.

The host can see hidden parameters, it just is told not to expose them in
any UI.  Previously recorded automation could exist (from a different but
compatible plugin version?) or a custom GUI could automae a hidden
parameter.
