Many religious wars have been fought over these terms, but has=20
not reached any conclusion. But of course i should acknowledge
that the policies/ethics representing the open source movement
as we know today has been more of a contribution from RMS n Co.
than any other person/org.

On a lighter note, i would like to point out that the two=20
statements of urs as i referd above contradict each other.=20
Going by the masses, the word 'linux' as a whole represents a=20
movement, a complete OS and not just the kernel[1]. That's=20
not the case with gcc, bash .... I cannot compare an application=20
(gcc) to an OS linux (again, going by the masses) Its just like
the seriousness one shows for cycle tests and the final exam ;)=20
In the first statement u compare Linux to GNU and in the second
statement u compare linux to applications.
But again,we *can* celebrate b'days' of gcc, bash .... there is=20
no one stopping us :D

In the first statement, you mentioned that we should follow
GNU and not Linux. Do u mean they represent different ideologies
(except for the diff of opinion in naming)?

btw, i do hope u ppl are calling JayRam for the fest. And as far
as the naming for the fest is concerned, how abt a tagline like:
"It's all GNU to me" - That would invite more newbies. ;)

saha.

[1] i know u would say GNU/Linux and not Linux, but then i=20
mentioned 'going by the masses'. That mass constitutes the=20
uninitiated, the ppl at REDHAT and other dist., the s/w=20
industry, the book authors, Linus n Co., myself and all others=20
who preffer compact and catchy names. I do respect the effort of=20
ppl at GNU.=20
