Older BIOSes (< 1998) had a limitation. These BIOSes were not able to acces=
s data (kernel image) beyond the first 1024 cylinders of the disk. So peopl=
e created a separate boot partition and ensured that the partition was with=
in the first 1024 cylinders. If you have an older BIOS then you will have t=
o create a separate partition.
