Dear Friends,
     Please sign the following petition. Please read till the end.
    Jaffna is a place in the north of SriLanka, with a population of
approximately 6 lakh (all Tamils) and 50,000 soldiers of Srilankan Army(all
Sinhalese). A9 Road is the only road that connects Jaffna to the mainland
SriLanka. This is the road through which all kind of transport (food,
medicine, material, people)takes place. The Srilankan  government has closed
this road a month back, depriving the Jaffna people, access of anything
outside Jaffna. The government has also closed all the schools, colleges and
government offices in Jaffna. 6 lakh people are deprived of food, medicine
and other basic necessities. More than 1 lakh school students are stopped
from going to school. More than 6000 college students await the reopening of
the colleges. The relief materials sent by all foreign NGOs and other
countries are sent  only through the Srilankan Army and and distributed only
by the Srilankan and most of which is obviously consumed the Army itself.
The rest of the relief materials that comes out of the Army are sold out for
a very high price that wouldn't exist in any part of the world. A sample of
the cost of some essential goods:-

Match Box- Rs 30/box, (from Rs 2)
Rice:- Rs 180/Kg, (from Rs 35)
Sugar:- Rs 400/kg (from Rs.60)
Coconut:-  Rs 90 (from Rs 15)
Coconut oil:- Rs 450/litre (from Rs 75)
Chilli :- Rs 480/kg(from Rs.160)
Tamarind:- Rs 150/Kg (from Rs 60)
Tea:-  Rs 800/Kg(from 300)
Egg:- Rs 55/unit from (Rs 6)
petrol:- Rs 650/litre (from Rs 100)
Diesel:- Rs 150/litre (from Rs 45)

Viral fever is rapidly spreading and so far 30,000 people have got affected
and they suffer without any medicine to even reduce their pain.

All these things to be brought to normalcy if the A9 road is opened for the
public. Please help the people of Jaffna by signing this petition.
