[glug-t] Minutes by Santa Post: Merry Christmas

Hi Folks!

This time around GLUG-T met with a bunch of newbies
at the famed A-2 hall, in NIT-Trichy. The meeting was arranged
at 4:30pm IST.We got started by 5:00pm, and the odd guy was
always trickling in.

The meeting was attended by lots of newbies who had
queries about everything and anything, starting from the
proverbial "free-ware" and "free software" divide.

They were very enthused after hearing and seeing what
GLUG-T was all about. This is great news. However the SASTRA
people were conspicuous by their absence. Mr.Balaji was missed.

As for the meeting Vijay and Ramdas were to present their
talks on "GNU/Linux presentations" and "Qt programming".

Now that we were settled in, most of the incompatibilities
sorted out and [GNU]linker-dependencies re-solved for newbies yet
again we set out for the task ahead.

Vijaykumar in his characteristic style made a case for the
terminal against the GUI. "Well I don't contend with it", would be
many of our views. But none the less "Magic Point" was a point at
dispute, rather agreement. "Magic Point" the text mode presentation
software was introduced to the novice audience in all its glory.
Vijay left no stone unturned, given his time constraint. A
reference was said exist at http://www.mew.org/ for the Magic Point
tools.

Then he moved on to "Prosper package" used with LaTeX to create
presentations. He showed a few "hacks" in prosper and graphics with
prosper. The sole point for making "Prosper" a force to reckon was
its binding with LaTeX that allows it to put equations and mathematics
easily in a slide. IEEE conventions and its support in Prosper+LaTeX
system was shown.

Ramdas couldn't begin his presentation because of the inappropriateness
of the situation; a lot of newbies who wouldn't understand a bit
of whats going on.So he did the undo-able; drop his presentation for
future.

For the same reasons we couldn't have Debian installation too.

Finally we bid goodbye to meet sometime next year.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Cheers
Muthu

p.s: In the previous post a lot of typo's were there.I apologize for the
