SAY WHAT?!! The gtk-tutorial is what we use to learn gtk+ programming. You will 
find an excellent tutorial at
/usr/share/doc/gtk+-devel-1.2.10/tutorial/

Gtk+ has very bad manual, agreed. But has really good tutorial...
