Hello!
Well, I guess, if youre busy over the last
2 weeks you might have missed, the
GNOME fever. GNOME, [GNU Network Object Model
Environment] has made it through the 2.12 release,
sometime around the 7th of September, 05.
Read notes at http://gnomejournal.org/
GNOME is a usable, modern desktop, which wants
to reach 10% of desktop market, by 2010.
This is what the GNOME folks, call 10x10 goal.
Well, apart from this, what excites me the most
about GNOME 2.12 is, that
+ It ships with lots of usability corrects,
+ HAL integration into core GNOME [been there since
2.8, I guess]
+ Utopia hardware browser
+ GTK+ 2.8 [has vector graphics, and 2D drawing based
on the cairo API]. This gives you a really flashy
desktop, thats clear, and rocks all the time.
Of course, GNOME 2.12 is not out on major distros,
but you can get a live CD, of GNOME, or build your
new desktop right from the sources.
Have Fun. Keep Hacking. http://www.gnome.org/
Cheers
Muthu.
