Have you checked the "Integrated textarea" option yet? In the preferences
dialog, first tab. You need to open a new board to see the effect, it won't
change the current board. The result is somewhat similar to the KGS design.
This feature is new in gGo 0.4, so if you looked at 0.3.9, upgrade it.

I should add a screenshot of the new design to the webpage (the current
shots are old anyways). At least on my monitor resolution the board is
pretty optimal sized.
I didn't enable this by default now. New things ought to be tested a bit
first. Also I dont want to get rid of the old design completely, as I
prefer the wide sidebar for reviewing and editing games, so the option
should do the trick.

Well, the two parts of the split window (board and sidebar) are arranged on
the horizontal (left-right) axis when the splitbar is set to "horizontal".
I suppose only a programmer can think in such a wired way. :*)
