I found this on the GNU Go mailing list (this does not reflect the opinion
of the GNU Go developers, so please do not go and shoot them, they have in
fact refused the request).
The original mail is available at

=========== BEGIN QUOTE ============
Sad news here:
gGo went closed-source. See the License session in the FAQ:
http://panda-igs.joyjoy.net/java/gGo/faq/index.html
What a pity.
The GNU Coding Standards says this:
( See at http://www.gnu.org/prep/standards_58.html )
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
A GNU program should not recommend use of any non-free program. We can't
stop some people from writing proprietary programs, or stop other people
from using them, but we can and should refuse to advertise them to new
potential customers. Proprietary software is a social and ethical
problem, and the point of GNU is to solve that problem.
(...)
Referring to a web site that describes or recommends a non-free program
is in effect promoting that software, so please do not make links (or
mention by name) web sites that contain such material. This policy is
relevant particulary for the web pages for a GNU package.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
So maybe it's time to remove the links to gGo.
In fact those leat to Sourceforge, where an old version
of gGo is still available. It's still Free Software, but it's
obsolate...
Again, what a pity...
best wishes

Just to make sure you read it right:
"Proprietary software is a social and ethical problem."
I deeply apologize to every gGo user for causing you a social and ethical
problem.
I strongly urge you to remove the gGo software from your computer as soon
as possible to prevent further social and ethical damage done to you. I
will refuse any reponsibilty for social and ethical damage being caused to
you by gGo. If you install the application, you will automatically have
agreed to that EULA.
Latest medical investigations and researches have not found gGo causing
physical and mental damage. However, one can never be sure, and I also
refuse responsibility for this kind of damage if you should suffer it from
using gGo.
Im am currently seeking sponsors for the "gGo victims" funds which will
support former gGo users assisting them to resolve the social and ethical
damage being done to them. If you want to donate or feel you are a victim
and should recieve support please contact your local red cross office.
Deeply sorry,
