  Philip M

I had spent some time attempting to address this post of yours two nights ago
when I suffered (or at least my overhead light did and more importantly my
computer) a power glitch which lost me the fruit of the effort I had invested.
It's even later now than it was that night but this time I can sleep all day if
I spend too much time here.

Yes I've seen Neville change his views once or twice also that I can
remember, but to the best of my recollection, not in my favour, even in
something so trivial as the meaning and usage of the term 'zenith' -- not a
matter of conjecture or opinion but a matter of generally agreed definition.

Yes I am fairly firm in my position when I speak, but this is because I
generally don't speak unless I'm fairly certain that I am right. If I'm wrong,
and I can see that I'm wrong, as I've remarked previously, I would feel
compelled to jump ship. But there is no compulsion upon me to make the task of
convincing me of my error easy for my adversary. (This does not include licence
to indulge in obstinacy in the face of overwhelmingly convincing evidence or
simple bloody mindedness but I don't think you can show me where I've been
guilty of these). You wouldn't have a very high opinion of me if I were to
simply vacillate.
I admit that I can't recall capitulating more than once and that once is only
a faint recollection of a topic which I cannot recall. Now concerning the other
points in your last para. This is not in any way a criticism of you or your
position or your approach and I would not have brought it up had I not been
prompted but I don't recall you changing your view to coincide with mine at any
time either. With others maybe, but not mine. I acknowledge now and have done
so in the past, your support in certain matters and again, while I cannot
immediately identify anything specific, I have the quite distinct impression
that I have supported you similarly as from time to time I have supported
others. I think we have a fairly similar respect for Newtonian physics which is
not universal. In the matter of reliance upon MS -- this is simply recognition
of my limitations. Even Newton stood on the shoulders of his forbears, his
forbears did similarly and so did those who followed him. If I must level a
criticism at you and yours, it is the inescapable impression that your
principle operating proceedure is to automatically dissagree with MS, and a
host of public bodies, and to agree with anyone who does likewise but again I
would not have said so unprompted. I know I am an irritant but you'd all be
nodding off if it wasn't for me gently goading you fairly frequently. Those
marathon impassioned debates, of which I have seen a couple I think, don't
occur often enough to keep you on your toes for long.

Enough for tonight. If you are still agrieved tomorrow, speak and I'll try
grovelling |[:-)

Paul to Neville, "I'll take a guess here and suggest to you, that for all of
your life, you have had a problem with anyone who dissagrees with you."

I cannot agree with that Paul.. I'v seen Neville change his views on quite a
few things quite a few times in the time both you and I have been on this
forum.. Obviously he is always open to a new approach or idea.. Most of us here
have in one way or another.

In all that time, I have not noted you to have EVER acknowledged anything
that changed your mind about anything.. You seem to shrink from the idea that
you could ever be in error. Rather you have claimed total dependence on what
Mainstream tells you, and refuse to even consider that they could be in error..
this seems to me a lacking in confidence to have independent individual
thought, preferring to follow the mob..

  Philip.
