[GeoSTL] Re: locationless caches

I think I have logged one that is listed as a locationless, Benchmark. I have no problem with ones like Benchmark as it required me to lookup a location and enter coordinates, go to coordinates and find it. As opposed to finding something, take a picture and then get the coordinates. I will probably do Quintuplets as it works the same way, enter coordinates, go coordinates and "find" it. I may do a few others if they interest me. (May have to, I have put 18,000 miles on my Jeep since October and I am running out of caches closer than 100 miles)

I have only logged a few, Benchmark, Quintuplets.

I was Ok with them until I saw ones like the "yellow jeep".

I don't thing BruceS has logged any. I think that CCooper is a pro at them.

They don't like my idea for a locationless cache of "smokestacks 50-1200
feet" - which I said was very similar to water towers. Geocaching admin
said "that it would be too easy". "Everyone could log their own houses".
I'm guessing none of you have smokestacks at your house - so I'm not sure
what that means. I offered to change the requirement from 100 to 1200 feet.

Later, they said that "smokestacks aren't attractive".

Personllay, I've seen a some really cute smokestacks.

Actually they are a lot of beautiful brick chimneys built by some talented
masons.  Many of them no longer spew out pollution and have been saved for
historic reasons.  I've seen a few ugly water towers.

For locationless caches, are they talking about things like the covered
bridge, Route 66, bench mark, etc, type caches?  If so, I agree with you.

          Locationless caches are always a gray area but Jeremy has asked
that we post only fixed objects - objects that a subsequent visitor would
be
able to visit using the coords posted by the original finder. I realize
that
with a stretch you could say that a ferry is generally at one of two
coordinates unless directly between the two, but the intent of the
restriction is to stop the flood of planes, trains, automobiles,
helicopters, boats, fire engines, and so on, and keep locationless caches
to
places of a fixed historical or scenic nature.
