The problem is that he's traveled more than 500 miles and if
the unit wasn't on, it's lost.  Yeah, it's lost.  It counts
on having a clue where it is at in order to make sense of
the almanac and satelite information it is receiving.  He'll
need to do a "full reset" (can't remember the exact
terminology) and it will start from scratch and figure out
where it is.  He'll have to do the same thing when he gets
back to the USA.
