I) a long time ago i set up a chat room. for
the most part, nobody came to chat so i removed the links.
the ability to have a basic chat room is included with our new web
server stuff but it was never implemented
If anyone is interested in such a thing, i placed a link to the chat area
on THE LOCAL NEWS.

enter any nickname and press enter. It is a very basic chat room but it works. If this a popular sort of thing, maybe we can investigate re implementing a fancy system.
You will need to announce that you want to hang out in the chat room so folks would know to go there. it might be fun.
a while back, i set up 2 computers to do voice chat using AOL's Instant Messaging service. that was kind of fun too.

II) a few days ago a geocacher mentioned that there were really no benefits to "belonging to" SLAGA. They could check the website, and keep up on news without belonging so why bother. Hmm, good thought. I would like to develop some info that would make it worthwhile to join. Any thoughts?
Some thoughts.....
a) I would like to make the "recent logs, new and archive caches" a "members only" item. Thats Easy to do.
b) Yesterday I announced two new caches on the mail list here. As a members benefit, I will give the SLAGA members here a few days to find them before i open them up to the rest of the geocachers in st. louis..
c) we could have a handful of SLAGA ONLY caches that are only posted in a members only area of our website.
d) We could offer a special YOURNAME@xxxxxxxxxx email that might be something.
we already have group hikes and get togethers.
anything else that would add value to a SLAGA membership?
membership cards with decoder rings!!
(i once had a purply car too!)
