- Libby, Many of the cell phone companies have the cards you mention. They will essentially work wherever you can use your cell phone. I'm sure there are some "dead zones" where the cell network isn't advanced enough, but I would venture to say you can use it in most places. I agree with Jim. As long as you have a wireless card in your laptop, find local wi-fi access points. Almost all libraries have them now for free, and many chain restaurants (McDonalds and [your town] Bread Company come to mind) and stores (Borders and Barnes & Noble) offer free access for their customers. If you're traveling to cities, I'd look at the wi-fi way. However, if you're driving cross-country and want access the whole time, look at the cell phone card access.
