[GeoStL] Saint Peters geocaching policy update

-
Hi everybody,
Brawny brought up an excellent point: what happens to Saint Peters
geocaching after I move to Columbia. First a long overdue update (sorry for
the delay, but I was really sick for a while):

Geocaches may be hidden in St Peters now, but Ranger Mike Wilkinson must be
notified of the location first. What that really means is: after you
contact him, he will pass the coordinates along to me (of course you could
give them to me directly as well), I will locate it, take him there and he
will decide if it's OK. After his OK, then you can submit to Glenn. I had
told him I would make up some kind of a form or permit that could be
standard for the future. Of course I have not had time to do so yet.

So all you cachers out there feel free to PLAN some caches for Saint Peters.
No mention was made of size limitations or anything like that-I think
regular or microcaches will be OK. To be safe I would go with clear
Tupperware, very well marked on the outside. PLEASE don't submit them for
approval just yet. I need to touch base with Ranger Mike first, and I'm
still pretty tied up with school for at least a week.

A note of caution: I hear from CycleKen (who works for the city) that the
city horticulturist is very anti-GC because she fears damage to the parks'
very lovely landscaping. So you should probably steer clear of any
locations that are close to plantings or landscaping. Most of the people
who work in the park system are friendly to GC, but all it takes is
one...(besides the head guy, that is)

You can see that with this system it will be absolutely necessary for
someone ( a StP city resident would be best) to step up to the plate and
take over for me in August. Anybody got any ideas about how to make the
call for a volunteer? I know not everyone is on the mail list. They may
decide to offer another class like they did in March, but I think they would
welcome anyone to teach that, not necessarily a resident.

It would be a shame to lose the progress we've made. Without a volunteer to
work with the city and press them a little, we're going to lose the ground
we've gained.

I'll let you know when it's OK to contact the ranger for cache permission.

Susan
