It appears one of my articles for the SLAGA newsletter - Part #3 was left on the cutting room floor. Actually, I had asked Jen to do her own writeup on how she and Matt got started in geocaching and the caches they have placed recently. Don't know if the article will make it into the next issue, or when that next issue will be. However, I think this is an example of unique content, which should be published in a timely manner. (Suggestion to the new SLAGA decision-makers: Plan to publish the SLAGA newsletter on a consistent basic; perhaps once a quarter.) The article follows. (konopapw) ============================================================= Focus on New Geocachers: JustJen & Matt Jen is an avid reader and enjoys bookcrossing.com. While on that site one day she noticed books being placed in cache sites. She wanted to know what a cache site was and that is how she and Matt discovered geocaching. They borrowed an ancient Magellan receiver. After finding 2 caches, they were hooked. Back in '99, Jen was diagnosed with a spinal disorder (a cyst on the spinal cord). She had to give up many things, including her horses. Being a lover of the outdoors and being told no more riding was definitely a blow. Discovering geocaching was definitely exciting. There was motivation again. To find something to do that they both enjoyed was awesome. Jen says: "What I really like about it is there is a goal to reach - a destination to get to. Doctor telling me I need to walk, but who can find enjoyment walking around a city block? That's just too boring. So we really enjoy the caches where we discover a unique location, a place we didn't know was there before. Not to mention getting to meet all the fellow cachers." "Matt and I have placed 14 caches between Cuba and Sullivan. Two in Cuba highlight huge wall murals, which are ongoing projects of the City of Cuba. They are really beautiful murals. The other caches in Cuba highlight its parks. We have received great reviews from other geocachers on our Waterfall cache (GCN96X). Seems everyone that has visited it has loved it. In Bourbon we have placed 2 caches; one in the city park; the other a 'mystery cache'. There is one cache just outside of Bourbon that has a great country drive and is in a unique location. The rest we placed throughout the City of Sullivan. Too many to mention here! " "We're looking forward to the fall picnic, since it is our first time hosting anything. We hope you all can come out and have some fun!" (You can find the geocaching.com profile of JustJen & Matt at http://tinyurl.com/8pj7p)
