[GeoStL] Re: Question about Event Caches

-
Yeah.. What Glenn Said!!! :-)

Actually, I log everything that requires me to get off my fat butt and look for something. Here lately, I have started leaning the other way.. (Not because I am getting too fat.. you know, leaning...) but because I feel that there is more to life than event caches. The event in Wisconsin I went to really made me think of how we do things here. Perhaps going to the event and having fun is the only thing that matters. I quit looking for pocket caches a while back because it was out of hand. I logged my share of event caches but now, I really don't care to anymore..

I will still hunt the event caches, but I will only log the event..

Generally the event organizer will let you know what to do with the temporary cache finds. Generally logging them on the event page is what people do if they are going to do anything. There are some parts of the country that have never heard of caches set up just for the event. They hunt the caches that are in the area and in the park. Since those caches are regular caches they would of course be loggable on their own cache page.

Some parts of the country think that finding things at the event is part and parcel to going to the event and they would not think of doing extra logs for doing things at the event. "attend the event, have a good time then Log the event and move on." To them logging something again you do at the event seems silly. Next someone would have us make a log for eating the BBQ. (which sounds like a good deal to me!)

**Around here**, we have always logged the caches placed for the event. We found a cache, why not record the find. But lots of folks think that is sort of bogus, somewhat like bonus caches, multiple logs on one cache, logging each step of a multi cache ect. We still do it anyway 'cause we just do.

Bottom line, the organizer will tell you what the customs and expectations are for their event.

On a side note:
Reading the forums is a good way to ruin your perspective of geocaching. Generally a hand full of malcontents can ruin a good thing faster then ants at a picnic. I rarely read the national forums (even tho I am supposed to) as I just cant stand the bickering. I prefer to get my news here or from the Mogeo forums because we have the best and most knowledgeable folks in the country right here. :-)

I am going to an even this Saturday. They are going to have 20
Temporary caches for the event. If I find them do I log them or do
they not count toward anyhting because they are temporary.

Just looking for opinions from the local crowd.
