What I would need is about 2-3 that could come and present what geocaching
is all about. I would like to see it tied into advancement.. For Tenderfoot,
Second Class and First Class requirements they must complete a 5 mile hike
that they draw out on a map, complete an orienteering course, learn basic
map and compass skills, just to name a few...
It would be great if a presentation could include an overview of Geocaching,
using a GPSr and map together, The importance of a compass and show an
example of using coords on a map to hike a 5 miler. Perhaps even show a
route used to include several caches.
The total time of the presentation should be limited to 20 minutes.
If you are interested, please let me know if, a) You can be available
February 4th, 2003 from 7:15pm to 8:45pm for the presentation. Since the
agenda fluctuates from time to time you could be called up any of those
times. b) You have presentation materials such as a Topomap that shows
locations of caches. (It would be ideal to have scouts use map and compass
to lead them to a cache.) c) Have a high energy level to keep Scout leaders
awake. If you have ever been to a roundtable you know it is hard to maintain
interest in some leaders.
I could make copies of handouts if they are given to me 1 week prior.
Please send me an email at griff@xxxxxxxxxxxx or call me at 636-300-0924 if
you are interested in presenting. I think that this would be a hit with the
scouts and their leaders.
