- Jim: If you are really considering Netzero for a dial up, you may also want to look into Maglobe (www=2Emaglobe=2Enet) You can purchase 25 hours (1500 minutes) for $14=2E99 and use the minutes anytime within a year of signup=2E I use it when I travel=2E They have a= n extensive list of local dial up numbers throughout the US=2E If a local number is not available, they have a 1-800 number, but with the 800 number= it eats up your minutes at triple rate=2E Dave Original Message: ----------------- From: Jim Everman everman@Anet-STL=2Ecom Date: Wed, 16 Jun 2004 11:20:52 -0500 To: geocaching@freelists=2Eorg Subject: [GeoStL] Re: Pocket Queries - > There are several ways you can do this, depending on what programs you have=2E > And you'll probably get better ways that what I'm saying=2E >=20 > The PQ will not do the route the way you want, but it's in the works the= y > say=2E So for now, you'll still have to pick points and use the radius method > like you do now=2E >=20 > But, GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife) can do it for you=2E After you l= oad > the GPX file from your query into GSAK, select Search, then Filter=2E >=20 > This will open a large window with lots of options for displaying just t= he > caches you want=2E There is a button on the lower right labeled "Arc, Li= ne, > Polygon"=2E click it and follow the directions=2E It allows you to put i= n 2 > points and specify a distance from that line to include (or exclude) all= > other WP's=2E You can also put in multiple WP's between the start and en= d if > the highway isn't very straight=2E Then send the remaining caches to you= r GPS=2E >=20 > Another option, since you have Mapsource, is to load all the caches into= > mapsource and you'll see them on the map=2E Then use the mouse to "marqu= ee > select" or multi select the caches out of range from the highway and hit= the > delete key=2E That will delete those WP's=2E Do this as much as needed a= long > your route=2E Then put the remaining WP's into your GPS=2E >=20 > Rich Humm=2E=2E I'll have to look into this=2E On our recent trip to NOLA, I just did radii around a few select cities and (as you know) got a lot of stuff I couldn't use=2E I considered deleting the 'way out ones, but didn't realize GSAK could do that for me=2E I just made sure I had less than 500 waypoints in each database and switched data bases as the trip progressed (with attendant screw ups)=2E The problem on my trips to Oregon and CA is the number of queries you can run in a day=2E=2E or can you run, say, all within 700 miles of Denver, etc=2E? What is the distance limit? (well, I'll find out some day<g>)=2E Uh=2E=2E ever try "2000 mile radius centered on Wichita, KS? :-) But as you suggest, it gives one something to do in a motel room other than watch TV=2E That is, IF the motel you choose has (Wi-Fi) net access=2E Again, on the NOLA trip, the best we had was an (Ethernet?) availability and I don't intend to ever get a card for that=2E A NetZero (dialup) account is becoming more appealing every day though=2E I think it is interesting how the nature of geocaching changes as you accumulate more caches found=2E Thanks=2E Geo Jim --=20 Jim Everman mailto:everman@Anet-STL=2Ecom http://webusers=2EAnet-STL=2Ecom/~everman/ *************************************************************************= ** * Our WebPage!
