Judi,
I think lots of people use them for different reasons.
My main use for the palm is to download the cache pages instead of
printing them out. I have over 1000 pages available on my palm, so I
don't have to carry printed sheets. When I go do a cache, I look up
the info on my palm and then enter the coords in my gps. I have a Palm
Zire 71 which I use to carry around all the cache pages for an areas.
I run pocket queries for Mid-Mo, Kansas City and St. Louis. I use
GPXSpinner to create webpages useable on my palm via iSiloX (a $30 pay
version for Mac)
My wife now has the iQue 3600 which includes a built in GPS. I got to
try it out this weekend. It's really built for navigating roads, but I
did find a cache or two with it. The maps and route computer were
awesome! I put in coords and it figured out my route to the cache,
showed me where I was and although it didn't always know the best way
to approach the cache or what log to turn over!
I hope that helps.
Dave

I have seen some talk about using a PDA in geocaching. What can be
downloaded to a PDA i.e. street maps, waypoints? What software is
involved? Is it Shareware, Freeware, or purchased ware? What needs
to be loaded on the computer?
More info. please. : )
