[GeoStL] Re: Olney

They say it is not an event but a party. They will have 20 caches. I =
am
hoping to be on the road about 7 and get a few in before the event.

The above coords are for the Whistle Stop cache (836 N. East Street, =
Olney)
=20
---Meet at those coords at 10:00 AM on the Saturday 11/27/04---
---Load coords for new caches into your GPSr---=20
---Go hunting for the 20 party caches---
---There will be numbered first-finder whistles in 10 of the caches---
---Collect as many of those whistles as you can---
---Return to above coords around 3:00 PM (or sooner if you have done all =
20
caches)---
=20
-A meal consisting of ham sandwiches, potato salad, coleslaw, etc. will =
be
ready for you-
=20
---The cacher who collects the most numbered whistles will be awarded a
trophy.---
---Hopefully, this will be a traveling trophy and will be used again =
next
year---
---Also, there will be a couple of first finder prizes in the caches---
---Most of the caches will be small containers with logbook and pencil
only---
---A ball point pen will be necessary to log one of the caches---
---Ball point pens will be made available for all who forgot theirs.---
(Yeah I know! Cachers are always armed with a logging instrument,)
---Most of these will be temporary caches which I will take down the =
next
day.---
---Those with digital cameras are asked to bring them and take lots of
pictures.---
---Data transfer cables are available for downloading coords into your
GPSr---
I have a USB port cable for Garmin's
http://shop.garmin.com/accessory.jsp?sku=3D010%2D10477%2D03
The serial port cable for the Magellan is:
http://www.magellangps.com/en/products/product.asp?PRODID=3D126=20
---If your GPSr is not compatible with these cables please bring your
own.---
---Or we can load the coords manually.---
=20
=20
Most of the caches will be traditional. You know, my and Whistlin's =
usual
blase' caches. However, a couple of them may be experimental.=20
Could there be decoys out there? Possibly!
Could there be offsets? Maybe!
=20
Most caches are of the '' park close by / easy walk" variety so bring =
the
children. The longest hike to a cache is only about .2 miles. Two will =
be
in the Olney city park and the park will probably be closed to auto =
traffic
in those cache areas but you will be able to park nearby and walk to =
them.
=20
A printed sheet with the coords will be provided also. This sheet will =
have
two cell phone numbers for those who might need a boost or hint or clue.
Printed maps will also be available to assist those who do not have the
experience of some of the other cachers.
(No, maps will NOT be provided for Mean Gene, roelsch & Rooter, carpe =
diem,
ZBQ, dieseldoc or seporp1. The '' world's worst cacher. Rome'' might =
get
one.)
=20
As of yesterday, the accumulated total of caches found by you invitees =
is
over 6,000. That is a bunch of caching. Hopefully, you will be able =
to
add 20 new ones to your trophy wall..................
=20
If you want to bring food items, please let me know what you are =
bringing.
The ham, buns/rolls/bread will be provided with some drinks like diet =
dew,
colas, tea, etc. plus the ever popular Fat Tire Amber Ale for those =
adults
who care to wet their whistles. If all invitees can attend there will =
be 25
to 30 people here........................
=20
Other details will be provided on the 27th.
=20
happy caching

The subject party preparations are almost complete. Caches are prepared =
and
will be placed on Friday. There will be 20 "party caches". i.e.: 20
caches that can be found and logged but they will not appear on
geocaching.com. These will be more like event caches.
=20
Hopefully, the weather will cooperate and the rain will be gone. But, =
the
caches are all easy walks and hikes with minimal exposure to muddy =
terrain.
(However, for those who insist on caching the hard way, there will be
creeks for you to cross and muddy hills to climb in addition to briar
patches and thorn trees. You know, something for everyone.)
=20
If anyone is planning on bringing food to share, please let me know so =
we
can work our plans around your contribution.
=20
We are looking forward to seeing everyone Saturday.
=20
happy caching
