This was posted in the MoGeo forums...will this ruling affect the caches placed
around Mark twain Lake for MOGA? According to a post made my the initial
poster, this ruling comes from Washington...and is to affect *all* Corps
management offices...
Here's the original post:
"Went out to the Corps office at Clinton Lake to ask about a cache I wanted to
place out there and was told that they have recently imposed regulations on
geocaches. Ranger Rhoades also said that they will be contacting cache owners
about these new regulations. So if you guys have or want to place caches on the
Corps property you'll have to follow these rules:
-Geocache objects or containers should be clearly identified as such when
placed on public lands. Transparent containers are required, due to homeland
security issues. Caches should not contain alcohol, illicit, or other
inappropriate materials.
-Geocaching activities will not be allowed to occur in restricted areas where
there could be conflicts with project security, or the safety of the general
public.
-Geocaching will not be allowed on unstable banks, cliffs, or below the (your
lake's flood elevation) pool level.
DANG IT!! DANG IT!! DANG IT!! No ammo cans, no key boxes, no nanos, no decon
containers, no camo tape/paint. Now I have to go move my PVC monkey puzzle box.
I see and understand they're concerns for they're and others safety. It just
bites me that a few crazy lunatics, mostly in the middle east, have gotten
everyone over here all scared and paranoid. If it's my time to go and it's a
booby trapped geocache, then that's the way I go."
