Like Brian said, using you phone as a modem is a good option, especially if 
you have free nights and weekends.

Verizon is the one with the card for the laptop and it's $60/month for 
unlimited access.

I've got SBC (AT&T) DSL and we can get Wi-fi access at all their supported 
Mcdonalds, UPS stores, Borders, and a few others for $1.99/month. They also 
have a plan for none DSL/SBC customers for about $21/month.
