I wasn't advocating the Sony - just trying to explain my line of thinking when 
I bought it.  There's far, far better on the market now, but we still use the 
Sony on a regular basis.  But, at this point, I'm willing to let my daughter 
carry it and take pictures as long as she's got the strap around her neck.  
(She's up to about a 40% keep ratio.)

The most important thing to do, IMHO, is do your research, make your purchase, 
and then STOP SHOPPING.  If you don't, you'll see something down the road 
that's way better and costs less money.  Stick with your decision for a while, 
and get something that you think you can live with for a couple of years.
