I gave up on MDC last year. The Ironton office was okay with geocaches
(see Buford Mtn). The Farmington office made it all but impossible to
place a cache in their jurisdiction. They required a 90 day Special Use
Permit - and would refuse to renew it. That means the cache has to be
picked up and archived after 90 days. I left one cache (Magnolia Hollow)
in place without requesting a renewal (they would refuse it anyway) just
to see what would happen. A couple of months later they sent me an email
banning me from placing any more geocaches in their areas because I
didn't follow their rules.
It's a shame because some of the best public land down our way is in
conservation areas. But, until they liberalize and consistencyize their
policies I don't want anything to do with them.
