  I am a mathematician and yes this one can be figured out before hand.  To 
  find where the point is you need to find the distance between the two given 
  points and the bearing between these points.  (you can do this using gps and 
  putting both points in and putting in as route leg) From this you can get 
  the direction to the cache by adding or subtracting 60 degrees from bearing 
  and the distance will be the same as the distance between the 2 points. 
  (remember this is an equilateral triangle)  Actually there are 2 possible 
  points but one will end up in river.
