However long ago  -- I read "Takedown" by Tsutomu Shimomura and was intrigued.  
I had first read "The Cuckoo's Egg" by Clifford Stoll and was even more 
intrigued.

ANYWAY -- both books deal with how a couple of guys first discovered and then 
tracked down hackers.  Takedown is the hunt for Kevin Mitnick. I'm not sure how 
interesting it would be now -- but having read these in the early days of AOL 
when we  spent  many long nights in chat rooms  meeting strangers and making 
friends (not long  after using my girlfriends' Commodore 64 to post to local 
bulletin boards) THESE books were VERY sexy.
