[GeoStL] MDC stance on geocaching

-
I've made contact with the Missouri Dept of Conservation in the
Columbia area about placing a few caches. The area superintendent was
helpful, but said that 'geocaching was'nt really in their mission
statement, but that they do allow it.' He stressed that it be a safe
place and that it shouldn't 'cause extra litter to the area. Then he
referred me to the specific area managers who I need to get special use
permits from.

Well, I was able to get ahold of one office and they seemed a little
non-helpful once I mentioned geocaching, but is sending the permit
anyway.

I just don't get it. It seems to me that getting people out onto the
grounds is the whole purpose of 'sharing' state lands with us. I don't
think any of us litter. And, I can think of quite a few places that
probably wouldn't get many visitors if it weren't for geocachers.

What's up with the 'really not in our mission'???!!!!
