A somber situation. I think I would have called them, too.
And given them the coordinates of the cache - or at least
the URL to the cache page.
The story said they were analyzing cigarette butts, so better to
be open about the cache than to have them discover it
and raise unnecessary suspicion about it. Any hobby should
take a backseat to a murder investigation.
