This used to be part one of a two part cache. When we did this one we had our Kyd with us and hubby jumped out, nabbed it brought it to the car, locked the doors and we signed it. People were walking around there then too. It's like it's in the middle of a suburban neighborhood and for the life of us we couldn't figure out where all the people were coming from. There were a couple of sets of older people walking dogs; a couple of kids.. just odd. Enjoyed it though! I am sorry but I think I had an incedent today that is worth telling, and asking if anyone else has had similar experiences. I did the cache HEAP BIG ROCK - GCJ3M2. To anyone who has done that one before, you know exactly what I am about to talk about. I have noticed that there are not very many caches in 'rough neighborhoods' . This is a very interesting spot for a rock to be, right in the middle of a road. I wonder how many times this has been hit by a car or truck. Usually when I do Urban caches, I drive by with my GPS on to get a little for-sight as to what my search area is going to look like. Next I park about a block away, and walk to it. It took me a while to spot it as I was concentrating on the opposite side of where it was. I was already to the point of giving up because I was feeling a little un-easy, me being from a farm town in Randolph County. Finally I saw one mroe area of interest before I took off, and there it was. Again looking back, and seeing that everything looked normal, I took it out and began to sign the log. I was rather awkward because the rock was as hot as the street. Then as I got done signing my name, it seemed like all attention was drawn to me. People were walking by, a guy on his bike came around and circled the rock and then took off his own way, So I put it in my poket and just hung around, as another couple was passing by, this lady kept looke back at me very suspicious like. Even as she was a block away she kept looking back at me to see what I was doing, then a truck had to make a left turn onto the road crossing it. And the truck halted traffic a few seconds, and now it seemd with traffic stopped up they were all looking at me, as other drivers slowed down to look at me, even after the truck, pulled off. I stepped onto the main block and walked back towards my truck until things were free-flowing again, and did my best attemet to place it back with no one looking, but with a constant flow of cars, I dont think where was much of an opertunity. I finally did some homework (read past logs), to see that it was the sight of an old 'Mound City'. I think it is a haunting story about what happened. But I think it is an even more haunting thought that all that is left of the rock is an indian head and a spot where a plaque has been ripped off,and has not been replaced. In that I think ir represents "A Mysterious Disappearance" just like the old Indian burial grounds have been ripped away, yet unknown to so many who often wonder about this rock. A great history lesson and symbolism in my eyes, but a rough and busy location. I hope I did not jeopordize this one. Just wondering if anyone has had situations turn up on them after they done had a cache and all they could do is hope the cache will survive. Joe Taylor IS IT FRIDAY YET?
