Geocaching introduced at Mark Twain Lake

July 11, 2005

MARK TWAIN LAKE - The U.S Army Corps of Engineers at Clarence Cannon Dam and
Mark Twain Lake is welcoming the addition of geocaching as part of the many
recreation opportunities offered at the lake. Geocaching is an adventure game
for Global Positioning System (GPS) users who enjoy scavenger hunts in the
outdoors. The basic idea of geocaching is to have individuals and organizations
set up caches in approved sites and allow others to locate them with GPS units.
A GPS unit is a hand-held electronic device that can provide navigation for
outdoor recreation pursuits. A list of cache sites on the project will be
available at the Mark Twain Lake Project Office and coming soon on the Mark
Twain Lake Project website.

The information is also available on geocache Web sites. A geocache permit is
required before any caches are placed upon public lands at Mark Twain Lake. For
more information or to obtain a permit, feel free to contact the Mark Twain
Lake Project office at (573) 735-4097.
