[GeoStL] Re: Forever Green cache GC29F2

We went to Homer's BBQ in Sullivan. It was closed so we came back to town and ate Mexican. Yummy good.

Went to the cache site looking for my landmarks of the ForEVERGreen Trees. The big one was cut down and is now gone and the smaller one is dead. We moved this ever so slightly to a location that better fits the name. There were remnants of a brush fire from a few years ago still there. The cache container was reported to be possibly chewed on by critters. These were no critters. .

It was an aluminum flare container. Better than ammoboxes as they do not rust. The cache container is basically in very good shape. The camo tape was all still pretty new looking, no rust, the rubber gasket in the lid was still good and not dry rotted and all the lid latches worked fine. This container could have sat for another 4+ years without any harm.

The part that was "chewed on" was the lid. When they cut down the bigger Evergreen tree, the lumberjack hit the (slightly buried) cache with the chainsaw. I am sure that it ruined his chain and his day. It did do damage to the lid of the cache and that is what let the water in. The contents were wet as was the logbook but things were not tore up or ugly, just wet. All in all, the container held up better than I had ever expected and I would fully expect a container like this to last 8 or 10 years sitting in the dirt.

The container is now replaced with a regular ammo can and some new stuff. I do not expect this one to last nearly as long. I am sure that the hinges will rust after a while.

No Clue. I guess we are just gonna look around when we get there.

Where are you eating at?

It is 43 miles from Valley Park (I44 and 141) It should take less an an hour to get to.
