Here's what Geocaching.com has under the heading, "Learn How to Log Your Find" -

http://www.geocaching.com/about/logging.aspx

As you can see, comments are not required. Any "etiquette" made up by individuals or groups, and I do not think that the log should not be deleted based on these made-up rules.

Above all, I'm pretty sure that geocaching is supposed to be fun, but there sure are some people I've met who are bound and determined to make as many rules as possible to suck the fun right out of it.

Yes, I have hidden caches, and I was just thrilled that anyone went out to find them even if they didn't log at all.

I asked a friend of mine who caches only with his iPhone about why he only puts TFTC. He told me because when he is out it's just quicker for him. I told him with the iPhone app, you can just put it as found it and hit the button that says save and close, and it will not upload and he can edit his notes later and upload them. It seems to me that a lot of folks using smartphones that I talk to don't really know what to put.

Too bad there isn't a small *required* tutorial before you can get a Groundspeak ID.

And oh i almost forgot, Sent from my iPhone. hehehe

I’ve sent out emails to newer cachers (under 100 finds) welcoming them to the game and to consider adding more to their logs. I love to hear about the reasons they are out caching today and adventures they may have going to or from my cache. So far no one has responded back to me, but hopefully we can teach the newbies that logging a cache is part of Geocaching and TFTC or J is not enough. <javascript:parent.gMail.openComposeWindow('lmillio@xxxxxxxx')>

I have to agree with Bernie. Those people who say nothing or "Sent from my mobile device" as their log, probably have never put out a cache. If they did, then they would know that your log entry is the only reward a cache placer gets. Sometimes I probably say too much, but I always say 'thanks'. I really do not see why it is a big deal. It does not detract from the cache's worth just because a log is blank. I always write something in mine, but I like to write/talk. Maybe some folks are just about finding caches.

Is there a rule that you must praise the cache owner when you find their cache?
