[GeoStL] Re: CoolCaches to be Archived

He is actually a he$$ of a nice guy, maintains his caches all over the country better than most folks maintain their caches in town. He was one of the 1st folks to actually hide many caches downtown. Leave it to an out of towner to think anything like that would be important for anyone.

   1. He has hidden quite a few caches, and with their diverse
locations may not be able to keep up with that many and that
      MIGHT be a factor.
   2. I have not hidden any so I really cannot know much about 1
above, so I think I should shy away from that.
   3. I see someone who is avid about what he does and doesn't
understand those who are not up to his level of commitment.
   4. He has his own ideas and feelings and is sharing them openly and
not trying to be politically correct. They just seem to be a
genuine expression of what he feels without a PC filter applied.
I rather like that and would rather know what someone REALLY
thinks even if I don't agree with them.
   5. I like his approach to creating caches. I have not attempted to
find any of his, so I don't know whether what he says translates
into reality, but if it does, then I can see his disappointment
in his hard work being violated.
   6. If he is hiding things just for the pleasure he gets out of the
logs and adulation for a good cache, then I think he could have
a better, healthier attitude. Perhaps he should not be in it for
praise or think it is only good if it works the way he envisions
it. 'Tis better to give than receive. That is just my own not
      politically corrected opinion.
   7. It is frustrating finding a cache that has been trashed, so I
can imagine his frustration in having to replace them.
   8. I too don't feel like people should be making a big deal about
leaving, but this is a notice on his cache, which I can
certainly understand. He published his philosophy of not
archiving caches, so if he is going to change his policy, then I
see it as only a courtesy to announce that as well. He certainly
does not appear to have a problem with saying what is on his
      mind. Again, I admire that.
   9. I don't agree that he should be name calling, but if he has to
put a label on the group causing problems, then is it all that
bad? He may have chosen perhaps a better label which goes back
to political correctness, but if it is a reflection of what is
in his mind, and it is his cache page, then why not. I don't
      believe in censorship.

That being said, I respect the opinions expressed by others who don't think very much of this guy. If I did otherwise I would be a hypocrite since I don't believe in censorship. So in the end, he has opinions and y'all do to. And here are mine. A different perspective often helps me when I think about things. So that is why I express mine. Sometimes I get something back that makes me think, and that is always a growth experience. That is why I don't mind off topic discussions because I think they are an opportunity to grow and learn.

Nice reply, Mike.

If we took CC's caches away from downtown, there'd
be hardly any left.
His hides are some of the best I've seen,
especially for urban areas.
It took three trips to St Louis Riverfront to
complete that one, and
I still haven't found Old Saint Lou after three
trips (granted, one at
night). There's another less than a block from
where I park for work
that I haven't tried yet. I can only imagine that
it's just as
tricky.

Not only does CC place caches, he's one of the few
that will replace
caches, whether it's replacing a broken container or
a full log.

I agree with Coolcache. I think that if you take
the time for a good hide
with unique containers, you deserve more than a
cut and paste log. I have
seen people delete cut and paste logs (Dallas). If
you spend time creating a
clever cache, the least a person can do is hide it
back as they found it.
Too many times people just stuff it back because
there is another cache only
.15 from where they are. It gets frustrating!!

He should be proud of the hides and his
containers. He has hidden 82.
Without people like him, what would we look for? I
know his pain.. I too
have become frustrated with carelessness.
