- Even though I have to calibrate the compass now and again, I have learned a few things about it. I will grant that it is quirky, but I have also found that sometimes it turns itself off, and you need to turn it back on manually, and it seems that sometimes it says it is on, but it isn't. So I turn it off then back on, and all is well without the recalibrate. That being said, I have gotten used to the electronic compass, and have become accustomed to being able to stand in one place and pick out a visual course line THEN start moving. I also use the electronic compass when I am out with the boy scouts as a substitute mag compass, so if I would be in the market again, I would get the electronic compass again. I think it really depends on what you have gotten used to, and what uses you have for the device. Nobody can argue with RGS's success without the electronic compass, so obviously it is not strictly needed. But then he has more bounce in his step than I do....... I subscribe to the advice that on guy who had reached 100 years of age in an interview he gave. They asked what was the secret to his longevity. That answer: I never run when I can walk. I never walk when I can stand. I never stand when I can sit. I never sit when I can lay down. Worked for him. But then I bet he didn't belong to a group that has a food fetish. Ihave also heard some folks not too enthusiastic with the electronic compass. So my question is how many of you actually use the "S" features - theelectronic compass and barometric altimeter? Isn't the Cx60 essentially the same without those two features? It is a little less expensive. Also I never hear anything about the CSx76. Any idea on how it is different from theCSx60? Thanks!
