My 1st GPSr was a Garmin III. It did not
have an electronic compass. Had to keep
moving at least 4-5MPH at a constant
speed to make sure the page with the big
pointy arrow kept pointing toward the cache.
2nd GPSr was a Garmin Etrex Vista.
Electronic compass was great and I
learned to rely on it - although, every
time you change batteries you have
to spin around 2 1/2 times to
recalibrate it. No biggie.

My new Garmin 60-CSX has an electronic
compass. I haven't used the unit to see
how it performs in comparison to the
Vista. As stated here already, I have
also heard rumor that the electronic
compass does not work well. However,
there are instructions on how to
'properly' set it and use it, so perhaps
those who say it doesn't work have
not followed directions.
