One of the benefits of living in a rural area. I too,
have begun searching for benchmarks. My success rate
is anything but good. Living in a large metropolitan
area, many of the benchmarks that are listed as being
recovered as recently as 1993 have become the victims
of urban sprawl. Which raises the question of what
responsibility a developer or contractor has when
progress dictates that the land, road right of way,
and or edifice is altered.
With a success ratio of approx. 10%, I must add that
when a benchmark is located under these conditions..
it sure gives one a feeling of accomplishment. In
order to improve this ratio, I have set my sites on
areas outside of my local area.. looking towards area
that have not been subjected to the growth an
expansion of a metropolitan area.
