This is a reminder to all who don't
what to have to receive these messages
in their in-box, but would prefer to
peruse them via the archive web page.
Each month, I change my web browser
'Favorite' link to the current month's
Freelist Geocaching Newsgroup archives.
For instance, I just changed it to this
for March:
http://www.freelists.org/archives/geocaching/03-2006/
To catch up with the local chit-chat,
I click on that link and look for the
last message I haven't read, yet. Then
I step through all the new messages by
clicking on the [Date Next] link until
I reach the last message.
This method means I could selectively view
the topic or the person who submitted
the entry before reading it. No need to
download all messages into your in-box
and have to sort them out later. And you
can read the messages anywhere you can
browse to the internet. You don't have to
have remote access to your email in-box
(disabled by some employers) to keep up.
This is a great option for 'lurkers'. It
makes it a little harder to submit replies,
though, but to me, the advantages outweigh
the disadvantages.
