My part
Australia: Social factors
Australia is a single market that accounted both substantial economic and
population growth in last 5 years in our comparison. It's relatively
liberal immigration laws makes it attractive for regional immigration.
Country supports investment immigration, which in combination with high
level of life made it a sole destination for rich people in the region.
Number of boats licensed
There are around 750,000 recreational boats in
Australia.1<#1359e33aeb892dcb_sdfootnote1sym>
Competition
The level of market competition is reflected in the level of business
sophistication and innovation. The more competition there is in the market,
the more businesses are forced to innovate and develop new business models.
Scores in the Global Competitiveness Index (Innovation and Sophistication
sub-index), a yearly report published by the World Economic Forum, were
used (please see Appendix 1). Out of the countries looked at in this
report, Australia had the second lowest score
(4.57)2<#1359e33aeb892dcb_sdfootnote2sym>,
making it a good country to do business in.
Technological Infrastructure
There are three areas of concern in this area: (1) the ability of ports in
Australia to receive and handle goods exported from South Korea; (2) the
transportation infrastructure of the country; and (3) the communication
networks in the country. Scores in the Global Competitiveness Index
(Infrastructure sub-index), a yearly report published by the World Economic
Forum, were used to measure the infrastructure of Australia. Australia has
a respectable rank of 24 in the Global Competitiveness
Index.3<#1359e33aeb892dcb_sdfootnote3sym>
Business system
The “Doing Business 2012” report ranks Australia
15th.4<#1359e33aeb892dcb_sdfootnote4sym>It ranks second as a country
by speed of registering a company. New Zealand
is first.
Economic Exchange rate
The Australian exchange rate has been rising heavily against the Korean Won
(see Appendix 1). If this trade will continue, it will negatively impact
lowest segment of the market. Making discount imports not-so-discount for
Australians. The current AUD depreciation against KWN may be caused by
lowering of central bank rates and quantitative easing in Australia, as a
result of crisis expectations. This trend may be reversed in longer term as
Australia will increasing its natural resources exports and economic
stabilize.
State of the economy
Australia has fared better than most other developed countries during the
economic downturn of the past few years. Currently, Australia has a 1.8%
GDP growth rate. Currently, Australia is undergoing transformation from net
importer to a net exporter type of economy due to rise of natural resources
exports. The long term development trend will be impacted by this
transformation. In the future, more economic development will happen not in
urbanized areas, but in areas with extensive natural resources deposits,
points of revenue realization.
Ecological Distance to market
The distance between Australia and South Korea is: 11914.9 km
Political
Australia is a liberal political regime, similar to Canada. It features
federal government, with provinces having own legislatures. Regional
differences should be taken into consideration at an entry stage.
Tariffs
Australia has a 5% tariff on all boat fenders entering the
country5<#1359e33aeb892dcb_sdfootnote5sym>
