The Nido Qubein School of Communication at High Point University is searching for two graduate coordinators and for five additional energetic faculty members. Positions will begin August 2009. 1. Graduate Program Coordinator: Creative Media Industries. The successful applicant will direct new MA and MFA programs in interactive media and teach and research in the field. Candidates must have a strong foundation in the interactive media and gaming industries. Demonstrable hands-on expertise in related software is expected. (Minimum credentials: Ph.D./MFA and 10 years of higher education experience.) 2. Graduate Program Coordinator: Strategic Communication (Health Communication). In addition to teaching and researching in the field, the successful applicant will direct a new professional MA program in Strategic Communication with emphases in health communication, public relations and possibly political communication. Academic and professional experience in health communication is expected. (Minimum credentials: Ph.D. in Health Communication or closely related field and 10 years of academic and/or professional health communication experience.) 3. New Media. Candidates must be prepared to teach HTML and a variety of cross-platform media software packages including, but not limited to: PhotoShop, Adobe Audition, Adobe Premier, Dreamweaver, ProTools, Final Cut Pro, Avid and Flash. (Minimum credentials: MA/Ph.D. preferred.) 4. Media Production. Candidates will teach basic and advanced audio and video production courses. Individuals with professional multi-track audio recording experience will be given preference. The successful applicant must have recent professional experience from the broadcast, corporate/industrial, and/or recording industries. Fluency in current software is expected. Candidates may also be asked to advise the campus radio station. Teaching in our new graduate program is possible. (Minimum credentials: MA/Ph.D. preferred) 5. Journalism. Candidates must have recent broadcast journalism experience. Individuals with hands-on experience in sports journalism will be given preference. Understanding of journalistic ethics is required as is willingness to participate in a converged journalism curriculum. Teaching in our new graduate program is possible. (Minimum credentials: MA/Ph.D. preferred). 6. Strategic Communication (Public Relations/Advertising). Candidates must demonstrate exceptional media-related graphic design skills. Experience in the public relations/advertising industry is expected as is fluency in related software. Candidates must be prepared to teach in a new graduate program. (Minimum credentials: MA/Ph.D. preferred) 7. Speech/Organizational Communication. Candidates will teach courses in Organizational Communication, Human Communication, and Interpersonal Communication as well as other speech related areas. Candidates must also be prepared to teach in our new graduate program. Candidates with strength in quantitative research will be given preference. (Minimum credentials: Ph.D./ABD accepted.) Credential review begins September 29, 2008 and continues until the positions are filled. Finalists for all positions will be asked to submit a portfolio of their professional/academic work. Academic rank for each position will depend on candidate's credentials and experience. In December 2008 The Nido Qubein School of Communication, a dynamic community of teachers and scholars, will be moving into a new 60,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility featuring a game development studio, two HDTV studios, a multi-track recording studio, editing labs, a radio station and sufficient lab space to meet our goal of being an exemplar for Twenty-first Century liberal arts communication programs. Faculty at the Qubein School is expected to participate in related national organizations and to produce refereed scholarship/creative work.
