[gameprogrammer] Re: software engineering

And there's no way to sound uneducated than to ask questions whose
answers you could have easily found yourself.

A better course of action would have been to look up 'second system
syndrome'' and THEN ask any remaining questions. This shows a
willingness to learn and interest in the subject matter rather than
just the answer. And it's this type of attitude that I (and probably
others) look for in an interview :).

Now, before the ensuing flame war destroys us all, here are my recommendations:

Mythical Man Month
Pragmatic Programmer

Both excellent. Of course, no book can truly prepare you for the real
world, so the best teacher is experience. If you want to be a better
software engineer, write code. Lots and lots of code. When you're
done, write some more.

It doesn't really matter what language you use or what projects you
work on: just code. The more you write the more you learn what works
and what doesn't.
