Cengage and AK Peters are coming out with a whole new series of books on
Game Development and Game Engine Design. A good 3D engine will have a
solid 2D management system built into it so if you build a series of 2D
games to test your elements and game theory, you will be able to adapt
quickly to 3D space and 3D ai.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply Tim,
I found just a couple books worthwhile:

05932
http://www.amazon.com/Engine-Toolset-Development-Graham-Wihlidal/dp/1592

Which of these do you think would be best? Or is there another that
would be good for me?
We plan on making a really simple engine that we could build on. My
friend insists on making a 3d engine....he is a good arguer, I might be
able to convince him otherwise if i need to though. Though, all the
online tutorials don't look worthwhile.
Thanks,
Julian

Julian,
This is one of those questions that you want to use Amazon.com for book
searches or Google for simple engine design. Depending on the complexity
of the game you are designing you can build an engine with adaptability
and flexibility for future iterations of your game.

Hey guys,
I am looking for what would be the best way to make a simple game engine
using C++. Me and a few friends were going to try to make a simple
engine from scratch, but we are now sure how to do that. If it is
possible to make an engine with MVC++(Microsoft Visual C++ express) are
there any good tutorials on how to? And if you can't make it with only
MVC++, what is the best way of making one?
Thanks,
Julian
